Donate by Year-End to Claim a Tax Credit and Help Animals

Updated: Dec 25, 2024

Thank you for your support in 2024! With your help, we were again able to support the campaigns of animal-friendly candidates and advocate for animals on a number of different fronts.

Help us continue our work in 2025 with a year-end donation. Your donation will help us continue advocating for animals in state and local government and support the campaigns of candidates with proven track records and commitments to improving animal welfare. Your donation to Humane Voters Oregon PAC also qualifies for Oregon's political contribution tax credit, meaning you can get it all back on your state taxes up to $50 on an individual return and $100 on a joint return.*

Highlights From Our Work in 2024

With your support in 2024, we:

  • Advocated for animals in the Oregon Legislature, including support for bills to increase penalties for animal cruelty (passed), make it a crime to make videos involving animal abuse (passed), prohibit betting on dog racing, and fund programs to promote coexistence over killing in response to human-wildlife conflict. We also reviewed the many legislative proposals by others to flag bills that might be harmful to animals. For more information on our work during the 2024 legislative session, including which bills passed and which didn't, go here.

  • Published our 2024 legislative scorecard to show which Oregon legislators were the best (and worst) for animals in 2024, along with cumulative ratings of legislators who also served in prior sessions. See all our legislative scorecards here.

  • Conducted an extensive endorsement process to identify and support candidates for state and local office who will stand up for animals in state and local decision making. Our process included candidate questionnaires asking about issues such as shelter-pet adoption, "predator control," animal racing and factory farming. To see which candidates we endorsed and whether they won or lost, go here.

  • Continued our work with the Stand Up to Factory Farms coalition to keep new factory farms from opening in Oregon. The coalition formed around the disastrous Lost Valley Farm mega dairy that opened near Boardman, Oregon, in 2017. We helped shut down that dairy and prevent another mega dairy - the Easterday Dairy - from opening on the same site.

  • Continued our work with the Oregon Wildlife Coalition to advocate for humane, science-based wildlife policies. For more on the Oregon Wildlife Coalition, go here.

Now we need to rebuild our funds so we can continue our work in 2025. Please help us with a year-end donation by clicking on the donation button below.

About Humane Voters Oregon

Humane Voters Oregon advocates for animals in Oregon's political process and elections. You can support us with donations to one or both of our two funds. Donations to our political action committee, Humane Voters Oregon PAC, help us support animal-friendly political candidates by contributing to their campaigns. You can also donate to our general account, Humane Voters Oregon, to support our general operations and advocacy.

Contributions to Humane Voters Oregon PAC qualify for Oregon's political contribution tax credit. You can give up to $50 this year ($100 for a couple filing jointly) and get the full amount deducted from your state taxes when you complete your tax return next year. It won't cost you anything and it will help make animal welfare a more important issue in Oregon's political process and elections.*

*Note: Oregon's political contribution tax credit is not available to people with an adjusted gross income of more than $75,000 ($150,000 for couples filing jointly).
