Humane Voters Oregon advocates for animals in Oregon's political process and elections. You can support us with donations to one of our two funds. Donations to Humane Voters Oregon support our general operations and advocacy. Donations to our political action committee, Humane Voters Oregon PAC, help us support political candidates by contributing to their campaigns in the name of people who care about animal welfare. When candidates get support from Humane Voters Oregon PAC, they know it's coming from people like you who care about animals and who want them to make animal welfare a top priority.
Contributions to Humane Voters Oregon PAC also qualify for Oregon's political contribution tax credit. You can give up to $50 this year ($100 for a couple filing jointly) and get the full amount refunded on our 2019 Oregon tax return. It won't cost you anything and it will help make animal welfare a more important issue in Oregon's political process and elections.*
With your support in 2019 we:
Helped pass laws to require dogs and cats used in research to be made available for adoption; to ban cyanide traps for killing wildlife deemed a nuisance; to give egg-laying hens a cage free environment; and to preserve migration corridors for wildlife.
Helped defeat proposed laws to allow sport-hunting of cougars with dogs and to stack the state Fish and Wildlife Commission with interests that minimize animal welfare.
Helped support proposed laws to make shelter pets the official state pet, to prohibit sale of dogs and cats from retail pet stores, to ban coyote-killing contests and to put a moratorium on new or expanded factory dairies in the state. (These proposals didn't pass this year but we will keep trying).
Prepared our "Legislative Scorecard" to show how Oregon legislators voted on animal-related issues in the 2019 session of the Oregon Legislature.
Contributed to the future campaigns of elected officials who stood up for animal welfare in the past and can be expected to do so in the future - to help them stay in office and to let them know that people who care about animals are paying attention and appreciate their support for animal welfare.
Now we need to rebuild our funds so we can continue to advocate for animals and support political candidates who will help improve the lives of animals in Oregon. *Oregon's political contribution tax credit is not available to people with an adjusted gross income of more than $100,000 ($200,000 for couples filing jointly). Contributions to Humane Voters Oregon (our non-PAC fund) do not quality for the tax credit and are not tax deductible.
